THE OUTER LIMITS ( 1963 – 1965)

outer limits

Creators: Leslie Stevens.

Cast: Bob Johnson, Ben Wright, Robert Culp.

A television show that is tending toward the hard science, space travel, time travel, and human evolution it tries to examine in each show some form of the question, “What is the nature of man?” .

Back in the 70’s I saw those episodes of the outer limits I even saw a young Robert Duval to my surprise as a guest star in this episode of the alien ship that they found you will see what they do to interact with them of I should say to get under their skin an to understand them I live that episode it id my favorite one.  Each show opens with a preview clip followed by a control voice that played over visuals oscilloscope. I love the first line on this show There is nothing wrong with you television, do not attempt to adjust your picture. We are controlling the transmission. If you wish to make it louder we will make it louder, we will bring up the volume If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to – The Outer Limits. The last line was: We now return control of your television set to you. Until next week at the same time, when the control voice will take you to – The Outer Limits. That became a classic lines and everybody was glue to the TV. The series was influence by the Twilight Zone big time. A series of guest star would be on there each week and some who were not known became stars later on like  Robert Culp, Robert Duvall, David McCallum, James Shigeta, Jill Haworth, Martin Landau, Jeff Corey, Salome Jens, Martin Sheen, Henry Silva, Ed Asner, Nina Foch, George Macready, Sally Kellerman, Arline Martel, Warren Oates, Michael Ansara, Ivan Dixon, Leonard Nimoy, and Steve Ihnat – among others. Over all this series was cool no doubt. If you get a chance to see it do so.
