Columbo a Homicide detective from Los Angeles Police department. Every episode begins by showing the commission of the crime and its perpetrator; the series therefore has no “whodunit” element. The plot revolves around the perpetrator by showing the crime, the identity of the criminal is seen by the audience however you see Columbo solving the crime. Columbo is smart and trying to outsmart him would be a mistake. His trade mark are his trench coat and his cigar, He has an eye for detail. Every time he almost out of the door he always always says: “Just one more thing……it never fails. He also drives a French car a 1959 Peugeot 403 Cabriolet a great car Let’s not forget his dog who drools . The episodes are all movie-length, between 73 and 100 minutes long. This at the time was never done before. It is by far hands on the best series on TV. There is the constant appearance of welcome guest stars (including Ray Milland, William Shatner, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, Roddy McDowell, Dick Van Dyke, Johnny Cash, Leonard Nimoy and John Cassavetes) and much more. Steven Spielberg’s early directing gigs was for an episode of the show Season One’s “Murder by the Book”. Though Columbo ‘s first name was never used on his badge it is written Frank. I remember one of my friends back in the 70’s says to me you have to watch Columbo it is a great series and was he right. I have been hooked ever since then.
