AMAZING STORIES (1985 – 1987)

Amazing Stories (1985–1987)

Creators: Steven Spielberg, Joshua Brand, John Falsey

Cast: Charles Durning, Douglas Seale, Louis Giambalvo

Steven Spielberg created, wrote, directed, and produced this series. God that was so long ago. I do remember most of them. This was to be a version of Twilight Zone in the 80’s I think, that is what it looked like anyway. The series offered a different short story each week – some dark, some funny, some a mixture of tones and usually involving the supernatural of course. Spielberg’s name is  attachment to the series, it was able to attract a series of big names  (Kevin Costner, Charlie Sheen, Tim Robbins) and behind the camera (,Steven Spielberg Martin Scorsese and Clint Eastwood) were among the many directors that directed episodes. It is a fun ride but the second season did not pull the rating that it was suppose too so it got canceled. The mission was my favorite one with Kiefer Sutherland as members of an America bomber crew in World War II, starts out great, but toward the end it might be ridiculous but it was still cool to me they used their imagination on this one a little goofy but cool. Over all a great series with mixed reviews worth the look.

  1. A great memory from my childhood. Individually, the shows could be hit or miss, but when they came together they could be great. “The Mission” (with Kevin Costner) is my favorite episode, and ranks in there with some of my go-to favorite movies.

  2. Loved this series, still remember the one with Mark Hamill where he was told to keep everything he could. He lived poor and keep everything in his car. He soon found out all of it was worth a lot of money and lived happily ever after. Not sure if that’s the way it was, but that is the way I remember it. Need to re-watch these someday.
