RIPTIDE (1984 – 1986)

Riptide (1984–1986)

Creators: Stephen J. Cannell, Frank Lupo

Cast: Perry King, Joe Penny, Thom Bray

Riptide focused on Nick Ryder (Joe Penny) and Cody Allen (Perry King), two Vietnam vets who find themselves in the detective business, chasing down criminals in California with the help of their pink helicopter, and a couple of friends who are computer whiz on a boat. and yes they have a pink helicopter with the month of Mick Jagger. See picture below. All that set aside the series is an action series with a lot of flashy visuals, big action, some hearty laughs, and a robot sidekick. Nick and Cody are regular guys who like to party and chase woman what else is new there. Murray, the comic relief, is the nerd that they need to get them out of a jam or hack into some system. There are plenty of times where he’s the one who saves the day and gets the girl. The other character is the Robot the R2-D2 wannabe with a bright orange color. It is wandering around the boat doing too much at all looking confused. You will see those Laptop back then they were bigger than they are now as I recall. Over all I love that one but it didn’t take after 3 years it got canceled. Well you can find it on DVD now and revisit this one.

Riptide (1984–1986)

HUNTER (1984 – 1991)

Creator Frank Lupo

Cast: Fred Dryer, Stepfanie Kramer, Charles Hallahan

Det. Rick Hunter (Fred Dryer) is the most feared cop in LAPD’s homicide division. A tough guy who isn’t afraid to bend the rules to get the job done, Hunter is constantly battling administrators and bureaucrats in the department. He meets his match with Det. Dee Dee McCall (Stepfanie Kramer) Yeah! that one the stunning woman of the year, who is an even tougher and smarter cop than he is.The stories are fairly generic cop show plots, involving cheating spouses, organized crime, and gangs, prostitution standard stuff. He is a loose canon and does not play by the rules. McCall is by the book and struggle to find her place in the police force a male dominated work place.

Any thing new here just standard police work with a beautiful police woman. I did watched it until the sixth year where Kramer was leaving to start a singing career which I think did not work well but she is still acting thank god. Beside it was going to get a little old and I think 7 years is a good run. It has a bunch of followers most due to the fact that Stephanie Kramer was in it. But I still like it.

WISE GUYS (1987 – 1990)

Creators: Stephen J. CannellFrank Lupo

Cast: Jonathan BanksJim ByrnesKen Wahl

Vinnie Terranova does time in a New Jersey penitentiary to set up his undercover role as an agent for the OCB (Organized Crime Bureau) of the United States. He has to fight with protection rackets, international arms dealing, foiling white supremacist plotters, uncovering a government conspiracy to set up a compliant new head of state in a third-world country, and the crime boss named Don Aiudo.

The series is an original one at the time was interesting and entertaining. It looks at an under cover cop who goes deep under cover and has to deal with his family also. A great performances from all the actors in this one. I think there was Kevin Spacey in the first season. He was trying to make his mark in the is series, he played in 7 episodes. Overall this was a kick ass series.
